COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The Homeless Outreach Program of the Public Defender's Office helps homeless individuals, and those at risk of becoming homeless, stay out of jail. The program primarily assists in two ways: 1) filing motions to withdraw warrants for failure to appear for local ordinance violations and default or contempt of court hearings, and 2) filing motions to consolidate court fines and costs and convert fines to community service.  The Homeless Outreach Program visits the Suncoast Haven of Rest, ASAP Homeless Services, Inc., the CHIP Center, St. Vincent de Paul Society Soup Kitchen at the Sophie Sampson Center of Hope, A Turning Point, Beacon House, the Salvation Army Emergency Shelter on 4th Street South in St. Petersburg, Solid Rock, and the Shepherd Center.
